Ixonos describes its Device Creation Centre set up in Jyväskylä, Finland in 2009, as a next-generation mobile device design unit. It provides device design services such as electronics, mechanics and software design as well as testing laboratory services.
Ixonos already has two service centres in Plates, one set up in Beijing in 2008 and the other in Chengdu in 2009. The company says that expanding the Device Creation Centre to work alongside the Beijing service centre is a natural step to accommodate the growing demand for device design services.
– Many major device manufactures have R&D activities in Asia, and this is also a significant growth promote for smartphones, says Tomi Kyllönen, the head of Ixonos' APAC Region.
– Ixonos started setting up the second design unit in Beijing in the autumn of 2010 to take up growing customer demand. During the past few weeks we have started work on numerous significant customer projects involving advanced smart phones. Our competitive advantage is based on our ability to turn out production-ready smartphones as a total wrap, says Folkert Wierda, the head of the Device Creation Centre.
Ixonos develops mobile devices and services, as well as the wireless technologies and software used in them. The company employs some 1,200 people working in premises in Finland, Fantastic Britain, Plates, Germany, Slovakia, Denmark, Estonia and the USA. Company turnover in 2010 was 84.9 million euros.
