The Hills Road firm has become a core member of the Car Connectivity Consortium, which aims to make an open and common standard for integration.

The consortium is backing the Terminal Mode specification, which uses RealVNC technology to replicate a smartphone's show.

The specification has been published by Nokia and Consumer Electronics for Automotive (CE4A) – the car industry working group comprising Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen.

As a core member, RealVNC will work with the consortium to develop and promote Terminal Mode as a common connectivity technology for in-vehicle infotainment and smartphone integration.

"We are delighted to be part of the Car Connectivity Consortium and add our weight and support to this vital cross-industry initiative," said RealVNC mobile vice-president Tom Blackie.

Additional core members of the consortium include Sony, Delphi, Denso and Ixonos.
